STEPPENWOLF THEATRE COMPANY

The STEPPENWOLF THEATRE COMPANY was founded in 1974 by three college/high school buddies who were dedicated to performing exciting and new theatrical productions. Those aspiring actors were Gary Sinise, Terry Kinney and Jeff Perry. More than twenty five years later the group has grown by leaps and bounds. Flipping through the pages of "STEPPENWOLF 25 SKREBNESKI" is like a who's who of American Theater and Cinema. Names such as Joan Allen, Gary Cole, John Malkovich, Martha Plimpton, Laurie Metcalf, John Mahoney and Glenne Headly practically leap off the page.

FORWARD from steppenwolf@twenty five: "In the Past 25 years, Steppenwolf Theatre Company has redefined the landscape of acting and performance by spawning a generation of America's most gifted artists. No other American acting emsemble has survived as long and thrived as much as the Steppenwolf company of artists. Steppenwolf's 25th Anniversary Season, which began in September 2000, celebrates the intelligence of the actor, the vision of the director, the words of the playwright, and the magic of theater."

THE ENSEMBLE 1981

The following excerpt is from steppenwolf @ twenty five © 2000.

"Through a miraculous mix of talent and vision, Steppenwolf has reconciled the contradictions of modern theater. It stages edgy, experimental productions that still manage to attract mainstream audiences. It is an ensemble that shuns the star system, yet it has launched its fair share of stars. That those stars regularily skip movie roles to act in Steppenwolf plays speaks volumes about the magic of this theater."

I had the opportunity to see first hand the quality of Steppenwolf productions. Jeff Perry was on stage in June/July 2001 as Doctor Astrov in "Uncle Vanya" by Anton Chekov. For more information on this talented actor click on image below.
